Many pupils come to me with a specific event that is about to take place ( usually a Family Party or a Wedding) They may even enquire about lessons with me in the early winter months with the idea of playing Christmas Tunes to members of their family and friends.
“ Do you think you could teach me a Beatles tune by August 1st” I often get asked or “ How many Carols will I be able to play in December if I start with you if I start on 1st October?”
My greatest success was a pupil whose daughter was getting married and they wanted to play for them as they walked down the aisle.
The truth of the matter is that yes I can teach anyone to play any tune they desire if they commit to attending my lessons each week and do the relevant practise each and every day between lessons.
Clearly I have to assess the ability of the pupil during there first few lessons with me to determine the complexity of the music that is relevant for them.
Every piece of Piano Music has various arrangements for all levels of ability. I can then choose the appropriate music for the pupil.
Recently I taught a lady a piece of music that she wanted to play to an audience in 3 weeks time.
I taught it to her in 30 minutes. It was a Grade 1 Piece of Music and she had only been coming to her lessons for 4 weeks. Usually to get to Grade 1 standard it would take anything between 3 months and a year .
She was determined to “ get it right” and she practiced every day exactly how i demonstrated to her during her lesson.
So ….. The Answer is YES.
I can teach any person to play any particular piece of Music ……as long as they themselves make that commitment to put in the practise.
